Nantes look to continue their winning start to the new Ligue 1 campaign when they host Monaco on Saturday. Our free betting predictions suggest that both teams should find the net on Saturday.

Nantes had a pretty uninspiring season in Ligue 1 last term as they equalled their 2014/15 finishing position and ended up in 14th place, just three points better off than they were at the end of the previous campaign.

This lack of progress is expected from a club with very little budget when compared to the big guns of the league, but they will be hoping for some improvement in the near future as they look to threaten the top half of the table.

Nantes did get the new campaign off to a good start when they beat the newly promoted Dijon 1-0 away from home last Saturday, and in doing so continued a trend that they begun in pre-season. They have won three of their last four matches 1-0, drawing the remaining one 0-0.

However, their defence has been known to come undone at times, especially against the bigger teams in the division. They lost 4-0 to PSG towards the end of last season and also conceded three against Lille and Sochaux.

Monaco were known for their own low scoring games last season, but they seem to have abandoned their defensively sound philosophy in favour of a more attacking brand of football. They have already scored eight goals in their four competitive games this season, conceding six at the other end to make for a host of high scoring matches.

The visitors performance last season was a bit bittersweet. They managed to secure a Champions League spot with their 3rd place finish, but they will feel aggrieved to have missed out on 2nd. They were over ten points ahead of their nearest competitor for 2nd at times last season, but in the second half of the campaign they struggled to pick up wins and then found Lyon bearing down on them.

Their 3rd place finishing position did grant them qualification to the Champions League playoff round though, and they got off to a good start in that with a 2-1 win over Villarreal in the first leg in Spain on Wednesday. This followed on from a rather disappointing 2-2 draw at home to Guingamp in their Ligue 1 opener.

Nantes are likely to set up very defensively on Saturday, but with Monaco’s new found defensive instability I can see them grabbing a goal. Nantes have scored in eight of their last 11 home games in the league. But whether they can keep Monaco out is another story. The visitors have scored in all four of their competitive games so far this season and in each of their last six competitive away days, but conceding in five of them.

My prediction is for both teams to get on the scoresheet on Saturday, and odds of 2.05 for this outcome look excellent value. I think it could end up all square though, so I’m backing a 1-1 correct score prediction at 5.5 as well.
