Both Lyon and Caen will be hoping to build on their opening day wins in Ligue 1 when they meet on Friday. We’re expecting a high scoring win for Lyon on Friday and our free betting predictions reflect that.

Lyon got off to a predictably bad start this season when they faced off against domestic treble winners Paris Saint Germain in the French Super Cup. They lost that game 4-1, but losing against the dominant PSG wasn’t exactly unexpected.

They managed to bounce back on Sunday when they comprehensively beat Nancy 3-0 away from home in their Ligue 1 opener, with Alexandre Lacazette bagging a hat trick. That is sure to increase Arsenal’s already keen interest in the striker, but with Arsene Wenger seemingly unwilling to part with that amount of cash, it’s looking like the French man will stay at Lyon for another season.

This win in their Ligue 1 opener saw Lyon pick up where they left off at the end of last season, when they won eight of their last 11 Ligue 1 matches and only lost once to pip Monaco to the runners up position in Ligue 1. This saw them qualify directly for the Champions League group stages, whilst 3rd placed Monaco now have to get past Villarreal in the Champions League playoffs to make it to the groups.

Caen enjoyed a fantastic season in Ligue 1 last season as they finished in 7th position to hugely improve on their 13th place finish in the 2014/15 season. They will be disappointed that they couldn’t go one step further and qualify for the Europa League, but it’s certainly a promising step forward.

They began this season well too as they beat Lorient 3-2 on Saturday despite going two goals behind in the opening 20 minutes. By half-time they had managed to bring the scores level though, and an 87th minute winner from new signing Ivan Santini saw the new man make himself into an instant hero.

This takes Caen’s unbeaten streak in Ligue 1 to five matches, with the last three all being victories. But away from home they have lost five of their last eight, and they’re facing a Lyon side who are still unbeaten at their new stadium. The hosts have won ten of their 12 matches at Parc OL so far, and they will be looking to continue that excellent run on Friday.

Nine of these 13 matches at Parc OL have seen at least three goals scored as well, whilst four of Caen’s last seven away days have seen at least three goals too. With both sides showing some great attacking football in the opening day of the season I think this could be a high scoring match. Ultimately I expect Lyon to have too much for their opponents though, so my prediction is for a Lyon Win and Over 2.5 Goals at 11/10 to go with a 2.12 correct score prediction at 12.
